Harrison H4 Marine Chronometer celebration at No 11 Downing St.

Our friends and colleagues at the British Watch and Clockmakers’ Guild organised a private showing of John Harrison’s H4 marine chronometer at No. 11 Downing Street.
With two fascinating talks from experts, Andrew King and Jonathan Betts, the status of H4 as the most important clock ever made was celebrated by the packed stateroom.

The evening also provided a chance for the UK’s various horological organisations to get together, with representatives from the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, Master Keith Scobie-Youngs; the Antiquarian Horological Society, Chairman James Nye; the British Horological Institute’s President Alan Burtoft; and Alliance CEO Alistair Audsley.
Alistair said; “For anyone with an interest in watches, John Harrison’s groundbreaking marine chronometer is something to behold; a work of surpassing genius. To have the opportunity to see the chronometer up close was a very special moment and I am very grateful to the Guild for their kind invitation. It was also lovely to mix with colleagues in our sector and Alliance trade members, Keith Scobie-Youngs and Colin Andrews who both serve as board members at the Guild.”
